Hi Reader

I hope this finds you well! I’ve been reflecting on some incredible milestones this week, and I wanted to share them with you. Before I share updates about Haumea Ecoversity, I want to take a moment to reflect on the intense wildfires affecting California. To our members in California, friends and followers living or who have friends in California and those in the States watching the devastation unfold, our thoughts are with you during this incredibly challenging time.
Haumea Ecoversity: Now 65+ Members Strong!
Thanks to your support, the Haumea Ecoversity Community is now 65 members, along with a growing number of Associate Members supporting our upcoming six-part webinar series for 2025, featuring leading ecological educators, creatives, thinkers, and changemakers.
Changing our ecoliteracy education model has been a leap of faith—something I’ve dreamed of since we offered our first courses in early 2020, but couldn’t pursue until now. Without a marketing team or grant aid, this journey has been powered by the encouragement and trust of our Honorary Members, Founding Members, former learners and all of you who shared news of the launch. I can’t thank you enough.
A Journey Back to My Roots
This milestone feels deeply humbling as I reflect on the journey that’s brought me here:
- From my early work in science research in Aotearoa New Zealand in the ’90s and how my beautiful, breath-taking birth-land inspires me still
- To collaborate with ecologically visionary forestry NGO people involved with Crann and ProSilva Ireland from the mid-90s
- To direct professional development support for artists and creatives at ArtLinks for arts offices in Ireland's Southeast region
- To tentatively start my Hollywood Forest Story ecological art practice in 2008
- And later, to my eco-creative doctoral studies 'The Ecological Turn'.
In many ways, this new direction feels like a return to my roots. I’ve been thinking about my maternal grandmother and her siblings, all teachers; my great-uncle, fluent in Gaelic; and my mother, a gifted oral storyteller. I also reflect on my maternal grandfather’s mother, a sensitive watercolourist who lived along the upper reaches of the Whanganui River, which now holds internationally recognised legal rights as a living entity.
Perhaps this ethical, eco-creative, and educational work was always within me, waiting to emerge. But it’s far from a solo journey—it’s been profoundly shaped by the collective effort of those who inspire, guide, and collaborate with me. Thank you for being part of this shared vision.
Looking Ahead
Thank you to everyone who has shared news of Haumea Ecoversity’s launch, my new mini YouTube series on Ecoliteracy and Eco-Ethics, and my Instagram posts. Your support makes a world of difference!

And if you are in Ireland, stay warm. This is me earlier in the week with 3 coats on... we rarely get such cold snowy icy weather in Ireland.

PS We’re continuing to spread the word about Haumea Ecoversity to ensure our community grows with like-minded individuals passionate about fostering ecoliteracy. Our first launch was to assess the interest and need of our peer-to-peer ecoliteracy learning community offering. If you know someone who might be interested, feel free to share this email or our membership page with them. Every new connection strengthens our collective learning journey.

PPS Thanks to those also making regular contributions to support Haumea Ecoversity with donations big and small - this has been incredibly welcome too!
